Mohammed Shtayyeh, President of the Palestinian Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction “PECDAR” signed a contract with Al-Yamak Construction and Investment Company for the construction and completion of the Scientific Research and Graduate Studies Project at Al-Istiqlal University in the Jericho District.
Shtayyeh stated that the project values at US $ 870 thousand and has been financed by the Arab Fund for the Economic Development in Africa “PADIA”, through the Islamic Development Bank “IDB”.
Shtayyeh clarified that this agreement has been concluded in the Framework of the Development and Support of the Palestinian Universities Program, which aims to support five Palestinian Universities, through the construction and completion of new buildings and the expansion of the old existing buildings at a value of US $ 5 million.
In this field, Dr. Shtayyeh stressed on the importance of the infrastructure development for the Palestinian Universities, in order to enhance their ability to absorb the growing number of students, and create the suitable environment for the academic process in Palestine.
He also pointed out that through the projects being financed by the Islamic Development Bank, PECDAR seeks to support the Universities, and ensure their sustainability, because of their direct role in promoting the development process.
